History
The generally accepted thinking on the origin of giving presents at Christmas centres on someone we all know and love, Santa Claus.
Santa is a modern interpretation of a historical figure, St Nicholas, a third century Turkish clergyman who was known for giving presents in secret.
He left small gifts outside the houses in his parish on what became known as St Nicholas Day, which is actually December 6, but near enough what we now know as Christmas Day.
The festival of Christmas and the practice of giving presents is celebrated in many different ways and different dates in various countries of the world.
Happy Holiday!
